etymology of engaged

we are studying etymologies in my classroom. i am have chosen the word ENGAGED due to recent changes of status.

word: engaged
origin: 1430 Old French en gage
original meaning: under pledge
break down: en = make gage = pledge

the history of the word is much more clear than other words like "teddy bear" resulting from teddy bear ...

at any rate i am engaged and so happy to be marrying such a wonderful man. the process is enjoyable in most parts, uncharted in many and COMICAL in others... i am choosing laughter!

i am thinking that for the next few months my blog will either exist of funny stories or not at all...
